Preschoolers have previously met Reich�s hamster horde in Hamsters Holding Hands, This Little Hamster and Up Hamster, Down Hamster which respectively dealt with counting, colours and opposites. In Hamsters on the Go!, Reich focuses on modes of transport, with most of them likely being familiar to toddlers, such as a bus, car, boat, train and plane (although the plane being portrayed is a paper plane) while others, like a unicycle, Moon rover, parade float and golf cart, may be less so. In most cases, Reich�s poetic text names the form of transportation, but there are instances where the text is silent, and it is the reader or listener who must do the identifying. At one point, for example, Reich�s text reads: �Hamsters drifting lazily / In a hamster way.� The accompanying double-page spread shows four hamsters floating down a stream, each perched on a rubber inner tube. A similar situation occurs when the �Hamsters travel way up high / And even way down low�. The former text locates the hamsters in the baskets of a number of hot air balloons while the latter text finds some hamsters peering out of the portholes of a small submarine.
